About this bill
Committee rejects proposal for climate goal cost analysis
The Standing Committee on Energy and the Environment has considered a private member's bill requesting cost calculations for Norway's climate target of a 70 percent emissions cut by 2035. A majority from the Labour Party, Socialist Left Party, Red Party, Green Party, and Liberal Party recommends rejecting the proposal, arguing that thorough cost analyses already exist and that new studies would waste public resources. The Progress Party and Centre Party contend that the absence of a cost analysis weakens the decision-making foundation, while the Conservative Party has submitted two separate proposals to present cost analyses as part of a joint energy and climate statement.
