About this bill
Committee rejects proposal to halt visual field testing for driving licences
The Standing Committee on Transport and Communications is considering a private member's bill from the Progress Party and others to stop using the Esterman visual field test as grounds for revoking driving licences and to introduce more functional assessment methods instead. The committee recommends that the Storting reject the proposals. Members from the Progress Party and the Green Party argue that losing a driving licence is a serious intrusion into people's lives, while members from the Labour Party, Conservative Party, Centre Party, and Red Party contend that the professional process of revising assessment methods within the Health Directorate and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration should be allowed to continue.
