MPs call for abolition of regional county authorities
Progress Party MPs have proposed dissolving county authorities as a tier of government and requiring the government to present a binding timetable for that dissolution by 2027. A committee majority from the Labour Party, Socialist Left Party, Centre Party, Red Party, and Green Party recommends rejecting the proposal, citing the importance of the proximity principle and the need for regional coordination that county authorities currently provide.
