Justice Committee considers tougher penalties for rape
MPs Mahmoud Farahmand, Henrik Gottfries Kierulf, Anna Molberg, and Tone Wilhelmsen Trøen propose increasing the maximum sentence for aggravated rape from 15 to 21 years, raising the maximum for gross negligent rape from 3 to 6 years (and to 10 years with aggravating circumstances), and extending the statute of limitations exception so rape charges with aggravating circumstances never expire. The Standing Committee on Justice is divided: a majority from the Progress Party, Conservative Party, Green Party, and Christian Democratic Party support all proposals, while Labour Party and Centre Party members do not.
