Committee urges government to permit alcohol sales in unmanned stores

The Standing Committee on Health and Care Services is considering a private member's bill from ten MPs proposing to allow alcohol sales in unmanned retail outlets. A committee majority argues that unmanned technology can secure the viability of grocery stores in rural areas while complying with alcohol law, and calls on the government to enable municipalities to permit such sales. A Christian Democratic minority contends that unmanned operations weaken oversight of alcohol sales and risk liberalizing alcohol policy.
