About this bill
Committee divided on regulating e-scooters on pavements
The Standing Committee on Transport and Communications reviewed a private member's bill from Guri Melby, Abid Raja and Marit Vea seeking to give municipalities the power to regulate e-scooters on pavements. The committee split: a majority from the Progress Party and Conservative Party recommended that the government clarify what municipalities can already do under current law, while a minority from the Labour Party, Centre Party, Red Party and Green Party proposed explicit legislation allowing municipalities to introduce marked bans on pavement riding, and to consider raising the minimum age and charging e-scooter operators for use of public space.
